Snow & Weather Report
Update: Thursday, January 29, 2026, 6:00 a.m.
Good morning from Legendary Laurel Mountain. Cold temps have settled in and proper preparation is a must today. Layer wisely and you'll enjoy the kind of skiing that only shows up when the mercury is low. We're making turns from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. today.
Cold weather continues to favor chalky packed powder conditions across the mountain. Surfaces are skiing exceptionally well across open terrain, complimented by a sturdy base underneath and a fresh overnight groom on top. Spots of firmer snow may develop later this evening in higher traffic areas. Keep an eye on Lift & Terrain status for the latest access information and updates.
It’s currently 0° on the mountain with snow showers and breezy west winds. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 11 a.m. today, with a second advisory beginning at 7 p.m. tonight through 11 a.m. Friday.  Highs will max out in the single digit range with overnight wind chills dipping as low as -10° to -20°. Dry weather and calm winds are expected Friday through Saturday as a storm system tracks to the south with a chance for light snow late Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Looking ahead, a mostly dry stretch of high pressure will move in Sunday afternoon through midweek. Temps will trend next week before colder air returns heading into next weekend. Long-range guidance suggests an active winter pattern taking shape next weekend, bringing a renewed chance for snow as the colder air moves back in.
These low temps can mean great conditions, but be sure to be prepared today. Layer up well, cover any exposed skin, stay hydrated and don't be shy about taking breaks inside to warm up.
Conditions are excellent across both the Nordic and snowmobile trail systems today with strong coverage from end to end. The Nordic trails are skiing well with grooming anticipated on the upper trails today, and Silvermine also possibly getting a fresh groom if conditions cooperate. The Nordic grooming team asks trail users to please help keep the tracks in good shape by avoiding foot traffic and motorized travel on groomed trails. Snowmobile trails are packed down and are in good riding condition, with state groomers making the rounds over a 6-8" base.Â
We'll see you out there.
